Summary
Amphibians are among the most threatened vertebrates globally, with habitat loss, pollution and disease driving steep declines. Effective conservation hinges on integrating ecological requirements into farming practices, including timing of flooding, vegetation retention and minimisation of agrochemical inputs. Climate change further complicates this picture by altering hydroperiods and shifting suitable habitats. A holistic approach to amphibian conservation in agricultural regions must reconcile production objectives with biodiversity goals, fostering multifunctional landscapes that sustain both food security and amphibian populations.
