Advances in medicinal chemistry, including incorporation of solubilising side chains and prodrug approaches, continue to refine safety margins, offering the prospect of selective anti-inflammatory agents with reduced gastrointestinal and cardiovascular risks compared with conventional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
