Summary

Circadian rhythm sleep–wake disorders encompass a range of conditions in which the timing of sleep is misaligned with the internal circadian pacemaker or external environment, leading to difficulties initiating or maintaining sleep at socially acceptable times. Management is founded on accurate diagnosis of circadian phase markers, such as dim light melatonin onset (DLMO), and tailored interventions that combine behavioural, photic and pharmacological strategies.
