Ensemble modelling of past, present and future landcover scenarios has been applied to the Indian rhino landscape within two adjoining protected areas and an intervening territorial forest. By integrating multi-temporal satellite imagery and habitat suitability models, the study projects a 13 per cent increase in suitable habitat outside current park boundaries by 2028, provided the territorial forest is managed as an extension of the protected network. This approach highlights the critical role of landscape connectivity and proactive inclusion of buffer zones to secure long-term viability of isolated populations.
