Cultural Representation in English Language Education

Cultural representation in English language education encompasses the ways in which textbooks, materials and classroom practices portray cultures, identities and power relations. Research in this area investigates the balance between native-speaker norms and diverse cultural perspectives, the inclusion of local contexts alongside global models, and the influence of colonial legacies on teaching resources. Scholars examine how language learners develop intercultural competence through exposure to multiple world views, and how materials either reinforce stereotypes or promote critical awareness.
