Summary

Disability inclusion in the labour market encompasses policies, practices and cultural shifts designed to ensure people with impairments access meaningful work on an equal basis with others. Despite international frameworks such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and national anti-discrimination laws, persons with disabilities continue to face lower employment rates, higher underemployment and heightened job insecurity. Barriers range from inaccessible physical environments and inflexible work arrangements to negative employer attitudes and gaps in managerial expertise. Recent decades have seen growing attention to reasonable workplace adjustments, diversity training and the potential of flexible and remote working to bridge participation gaps. Technological advances, including assistive technologies and data-driven recruitment tools, offer both promise and peril for equitable hiring. Effective inclusion demands coordinated efforts across public policy, organisational leadership and human-resource management, underpinned by robust evidence on economic and social benefits. Embedding inclusion as a strategic priority can yield productivity gains, foster innovation and strengthen social cohesion on a global scale.
