Ethical Leadership and Organizational Behavior

Summary

Ethical leadership has emerged as a critical dimension in the study of organisational behaviour, emphasising the role of leaders in modelling moral conduct, fostering transparent decision-making and cultivating a values-centred climate. By integrating principles from social learning and social exchange theories, the construct encapsulates both the moral character of the leader and the managerial processes that reinforce ethical standards across the organisation. In practice, ethical leaders influence employee attitudes, such as commitment and engagement, and shape collective phenomena, including trust, climate and citizenship behaviours. Research in this domain has charted pathways through which ethical leadership reduces counterproductive conduct, mitigates burnout, promotes knowledge sharing and stimulates innovation. The global significance of this work spans sectors and regions, affirming how principled leadership can yield tangible benefits for organisational performance, stakeholder relations and societal well-being.
