Recent studies have revealed that standard underwater video surveys may systematically underestimate Norway lobster abundance. Analysis of thousands of video transects showed an average ratio of one visible individual per ten burrow openings, challenging the assumption of one animal per burrow system. This work highlights the need to recalibrate survey models and explore autonomous monitoring solutions to capture true occupancy rates. Complementary isotopic analyses have demonstrated that suspended particulate organic matter comprises nearly half of the diet in both sexes, with consistent trophic position estimates around 2.9. These findings underscore the importance of benthic food-web interactions and energy budgets for burrow-dwelling lobsters, informing stock assessment parameters and feeding-related vulnerability to environmental change.
