Gender Equity and Education Empowerment

Gender equity in education entails ensuring that individuals of all genders have the opportunity to access, participate in and benefit equally from educational processes. Education empowerment refers to equipping learners—particularly marginalised girls and women—with the knowledge, skills and agency required to overcome structural barriers and contribute fully to economic, social and political life. The global significance of this field is underscored by evidence that educating girls not only promotes social justice but also delivers tangible economic and health benefits at the household and national level. As research continues to traverse disciplinary boundaries, there is growing emphasis on monitoring tools that capture substantive equity rather than mere parity in enrolment figures.
