Technical terms
Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL): A multidimensional construct reflecting an individual’s perceived physical, mental and social well-being in relation to health conditions and their treatment.
Patient-Reported Outcome Measure (PROM): A questionnaire or tool completed by patients to assess symptoms, functional status and quality of life without interpretation by clinicians or others.
Minimal Important Change (MIC): The smallest change in instrument score that patients or clinicians perceive as meaningful, often determined via anchor-based or distribution-based methods.
Utility Value: A preference-based index assigned to a health state, typically on a scale where 1 represents perfect health and 0 represents a state equivalent to death; used in cost-utility analyses.
Ceiling Effect: A limitation of an instrument when a high proportion of respondents achieve the maximum score, reducing sensitivity to improvements in health status.
