Recent studies have confirmed that daily use of calibrated interdental brushes markedly reduces pathogenic subgingival bacteria and promotes a symbiotic microbial balance in young healthy adults. A large survey of over 11 000 participants demonstrated that both interdental brushes and floss significantly decreased the odds of periodontitis in individuals with twenty or more teeth, thereby highlighting the preventive impact of interproximal self-care on periodontal health disparities. In addition, a clinical trial comparing waist-shaped and cylindrically shaped interdental brushes revealed that waist-shaped designs achieve superior plaque removal in line-angle areas, emphasising the influence of brush geometry on cleaning efficacy without increasing adverse effects.
