Recent studies have examined the impact of moving into senior housing as an intermediary model between home care and nursing homes. Longitudinal cohorts of community-dwelling older adults demonstrated that relocation to purpose-built senior housing was associated with a substantial reduction in mortality, hospital admissions and fall rates over extended follow-up. However, residents who transitioned to senior housing experienced an elevated risk of subsequent nursing home placement, suggesting that senior housing may prolong community living for vulnerable individuals while signalling a need for seamless pathways into higher levels of care. These findings underscore senior housing as a viable model to enhance survival and reduce acute care utilisation, provided that ongoing assessment and support mechanisms are in place to guide timely transitions when clinical complexity increases.
