Postpartum Hemorrhage Management and Prevention

Advances in economic evaluation and implementation science have illuminated pathways to scale and sustain these interventions, underscoring both clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness.

An international trial across secondary-level hospitals in sub-Saharan Africa introduced a calibrated blood-collection drape paired with a care bundle comprising uterine massage, uterotonics, tranexamic acid, intravenous fluids and clear escalation criteria. Economic modelling revealed that this intervention reduced severe haemorrhage incidence while offering a favourable cost per disability-adjusted life-year averted from a public healthcare perspective.
