A large survey of young and middle-aged patients identified distinct stages of readiness—ranging from pre-contemplation to action—and demonstrated that higher education and income levels, earlier initiation of rehabilitation, robust social support networks, greater stroke self-efficacy and lower fatigue severity were independently associated with progression through these stages. This work underlines the value of early psychometric assessment to tailor vocational interventions and suggests that targeted programmes addressing modifiable factors can accelerate reintegration into employment.
