In healthy adults, midsole-embedded accelerometers provided superior step detection across walking, running and stair climbing compared with waist and wrist-worn devices. Performance metrics demonstrated lower error rates and more consistent reliability for midsole placement, especially during stair ascent and descent, emphasising the critical role of anatomical positioning in ensuring robust data capture under dynamic conditions. These findings point towards integrating sensors into footwear as an effective strategy to enhance measurement precision in both laboratory and real-world scenarios.
