Wraparound Services in Youth Mental Health Care

Wraparound services constitute a holistic, family-centred framework for addressing the complex mental health needs of children and adolescents. Rather than focusing solely on clinical intervention, this approach weaves together therapeutic care, family support, community-based resources and systems navigation to create a tailored plan that evolves with the youth’s changing circumstances. Multidisciplinary teams—including clinicians, educators, social workers and peer specialists—collaborate with the young person and their caregivers to identify strengths, set goals and monitor progress. Originating in the United States as a response to high rates of out-of-home placement, wraparound models have been adapted globally to reduce reliance on residential care, enhance functioning across home, school and community domains, and build family capacity for sustained wellbeing.
