Comparative transcriptome analysis between the resistant Musa balbisiana and a susceptible cultivar revealed that early activation of both pattern‐triggered basal defence and R protein‐mediated pathways underpins resistance. Differential expression of genes related to cell wall reinforcement, reactive oxygen species metabolism and specific defence signalling cascades was greater in the resistant progenitor, offering candidate targets for breeding or biotechnological transfer of resistance into commercial varieties. This work represents a significant step towards the development of durable, genetically informed strategies for managing bacterial wilt in banana.
