Two-dimensional Na–Cl crystals of unconventional stoichiometries on graphene surface from dilute solution at ambient conditions

The common form of salt has a 1:1 ratio of Na⁺ and Cl⁻; however, species that deviate from this can be found under extreme conditions, such as high pressure. Now, as a result of cation–π interactions that promote ion–surface adsorption, Na₂Cl and Na₃Cl have been observed as two-dimensional crystals on graphene at ambient conditions.

Revealing superconducting gap in La₃Ni₂O_7-δ by Andreev reflection spectroscopy under high pressure

The gap structure of the newly-discovered nickelate superconductor La₃Ni₂O_7-δ remains under debate due to challenges associated with the high pressure required. Here, the authors determine the gap using Andreev reflection spectroscopy, revealing strong-coupling superconductivity in La₃Ni₂O_7-δ.

Collapse of density wave and emergence of superconductivity in pressurized-La₄Ni₃O₁₀ evidenced by ultrafast spectroscopy

The authors study the pressure evolution of the density waves and their interplay with superconductivity in La₄Ni₃O₁₀ using ultrafast optical pump-probe spectroscopy. At low pressure, they quantify the density-wave gap. After the density wave collapses above 17 GPa, they find a small gap, likely due to the superconductivity.

Structural and functional characterization of an achromatopsia-associated mutation in a phototransduction channel

The R410W mutation in the cone photoreceptor CNG channel, linked to achromatopsia and assumed to be a loss-of-function variant, causes the channel to open spontaneously as revealed by cryo-EM, electrophysiology and calcium imaging, and is cytotoxic. This study calls for a multipronged evaluation/reevaluation of other inherited mutations associated with CNG channelopathy.
