Social Work

Social work is a practice-based profession and academic discipline dedicated to promoting social change, cohesion and the empowerment of individuals, families, groups and communities. Grounded in a person-in-environment framework, social workers intervene across micro, mezzo and macro levels, combining psychosocial support, advocacy, case management and community organisation to address the social determinants of health, human rights infringements and systemic inequities. Core methods include social casework, group work and community practice, underpinned by values of social justice, dignity and respect for diversity.
