Behavioural changes during the COVID-19 pandemic decreased income diversity of urban encounters Using mobility data from more than one million users in four US cities, researchers showed that although overall mobility rebounded post-lockdown, the income diversity of everyday urban encounters remained 15–30 % below pre-pandemic levels. Reduced willingness to explore unfamiliar places drove this lasting decline in exposure to different socioeconomic groups, highlighting trade-offs between public-health measures and social cohesion.
