Summary

Beyond direct antimicrobial effects, ozone stimulates local circulation, enhances oxygen metabolism in periodontal tissues and can promote fibroblast proliferation and collagen synthesis. When combined with scaling and root planing, ozone therapy may accelerate pocket reduction, improve clinical attachment levels and reduce bleeding on probing, while avoiding some drawbacks of chemical antiseptics such as staining or resistance.
