Summary
Physical activity during childhood and adolescence plays a pivotal role in shaping lifelong cardiometabolic health. Regular movement improves energy balance, reduces adiposity and modulates key physiological pathways governing lipid metabolism, blood pressure and glucose regulation. Insufficient activity and prolonged sedentary behaviour contribute to early onset of insulin resistance, dyslipidaemia and hypertension, which track into adulthood and elevate the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
