Stalactite pores for blue energy

Osmotic energy (or ‘blue energy’) can be harvested by converting salinity gradients into electrical energy, often using ion-selective membranes. Teng et al. fabricate membranes with stalactite-shaped pores, onto which they coat self-assembled lipid bilayers. This enables ions to slip more easily while maintaining the needed ion selectivity to generate power effectively.
