Processing ultra-high molecular weight polymers presents a significant challenge due to their high viscosity, which requires elevated shear rates and consequently increases energy demands. Here, the authors explore the role of the geometry of nanoparticles and packing of polymer chains around those in controlling the effective viscosity of polymer nanocomposites.
