Renal artery embolization—indications, technical approaches and outcomes

Renal artery embolization (RAE) is becoming increasingly recognized as a beneficial adjunct in the treatment of numerous renal diseases. In this Review, the authors discuss the advantages and disadvantages of RAE in the management of conditions such as renal traumatisms, tumours, angiomyolipomas and aneurysms. The technical approaches are compared, and the benefits and complications associated with RAE are discussed.

NKG2D signaling on CD8⁺ T cells represses T-bet and rescues CD4-unhelped CD8⁺ T cell memory recall but not effector responses

CD8⁺ T cells primed in the absence of CD4⁺ T cell help fail to develop a robust memory cell response. Zloza et al. now report that these CD4-unhelped CD8⁺ T cells can be rescued by activating their cell surface receptor NKG2D, which restores CD8⁺ T cell expansion and cytolytic activity during a recall response and protection in a mouse model of influenza infection.

Unifying framework explaining how parental regulatory divergence can drive gene expression in hybrids and allopolyploids

Hybridization and polyploidization influence gene expression with several prominent trends. The thymus is sensitive to acute insults including infection, as well as to injury from chemotherapy and myeloablative conditioning before hematopoietic cell transplantation. Now, a diverse array of bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane boronates can be accessed via a multi-component reaction in a single step. Alkyl, aryl and alkenyl substructures can be installed onto bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane boronates by the use of carboxylic acids and organohalides.
