Investigating the nature of the high-temperature superconducting cuprates has been active area of research with renewed focus on the pair density wave (PDW) states. Here, the authors report several competing, nearly degenerate, PDW orders along with d-wave state in the square lattice t-J model using fermionic tensor product states method. They believe these features indicate a possible fluctuating quantum liquid of PDW states in the underdoped region which serve as a natural starting point for exploring the pseudogap phase.
