It has been predicted that in PT-symmetric antiferromagnets, electric currents can induce electronic nematicity that breaks the original rotational symmetry of the crystal, however, experimental confirmation of this has proven challenging. Here, Sakai et al find a twofold non-reciprocal anisotropic magnetoresistance in tetragonal SrMnBi2 and show that this arises due to current-induced breaking of four-fold roto-inversion symmetry of the electronic valleys.
