While the counterion of a metal catalyst can influence the activity and selectivity of reactions, this phenomenon is rarely observed in carbonzincation reactions. Herein, the authors report increased catalytic efficiency in the iron-catalyzed alkylzincation of alkynes when the weakly coordinating bulky counterion tetrakis(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)borate is added.
