Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma has an immune suppressive immune tumour microenvironment, but treatment with clinically available immune checkpoint inhibitors hasn’t improved survival significantly. Here authors show that in mice genomic deletion of VISTA, a checkpoint molecule predominantly expressed in myeloid-derived suppressor cells and leukocytes in the tumour microenvironment, results in enhanced CD8 + T cell response against tumours, providing proof of principle for VISTA-blockade as immunotherapy in pancreatic cancer.
