The magnetooptical Kerr effect was discovered in the 19th century, and is still a critical characterization technique for materials today. Typically the effect arises from spin-orbit coupling, net magnetization, or a combination of the two, but here, Farhang, Lu and coauthors find a magneto-optical Kerr effect arising from scalarspin-chirality in the non-collinear antiferromagnet, Co1/3TaS2.
