Understanding the prevalence of non-perennial streams is vital for assessing the hydrological and biogeochemical functions of watersheds, yet accurate quantification remains challenging. This study uses global simulations and field data to reveal that non-perennial streams are more widespread than previously thought, both regionally and globally, highlighting the importance of adequately considering channel network dynamics in water science.
